Art & Design RAE 2008
Director of the Art and Design Research Centre, Professor Pat Sterry, notes: ‘We are pleased about the results of our first Art and Design return to RAE2008 achieving an average grade point of 1.95. For the first time the university has a visible presence in this area of creative industries research. 18.7 staff were submitted together with £2.7million of secured funding from art and design projects, and with a wide spectrum of activity across all areas of art and design delivery in both theory and practice. This reflects a substantial growth in numbers of research active staff in this area at Salford since RAE 2001 when just 4 members of staff were returned under the 6* rated Built Environment submission. Twenty percent of our research in this RAE has been graded as world-leading and internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour.'
Art and Design research is organised via four Research Groups:- in Creative Technology, Design and Heritage, Design and Innovation and Contemporary Arts Practice.
